Virginia Primary School’s Metal Roof Restoration
Issue
This Virginia primary school had a 53,000 square foot metal roof system that had aged and begun to leak. The school system’s maintenance team turned to a roofing consultant to determine a solution in keeping with its criteria for building maintenance and sustainability.
Solution:
It was determined that the roof’s substrate would be an ideal candidate for cool reflective coating, preserving the current roof system and providing a savings of 50% when compared to the cost for roof replacement. Additionally, the cool roof coating system would deflect heat during hotter spring and summer months allowing the school to reduce its annual energy costs. Finally, the ENERGY STAR® approved ALDOCOAT 400 Premium Acrylic Roof Coating solution allowed the school system to realize a “truly green” and lasting solution without adding to building wastes and local landfills.
Results:
This cost effective and sustainable restoration project was completed on schedule and in time for the start of the school year. The school system was able to save on maintenance costs while implementing a solution extending the life of the roof by at least 10 years. Finally, the ALDOCOAT restoration system will significantly reduce the roof system’s surface temperatures and thus the energy costs necessary to cool the facility during peak cooling seasons.
