Metal Roof Restoration For SC Public Day Care 

The rusted metal roof on this municipal day care facility in the heart of South Carolina had seen better days and was in dire need of restoration or replacement. Rust was proceeding to undermine the integrity of the roof system that had begun to leak.

The municipality engaged Terracon, a knowledgeable roof consultant, to determine options for the deteriorating roof. Terracon conducted a thorough review of the roof and determined that the existing roof system could be restored through application of an elastomeric coating, allowing the municipality to realize significant cost savings when compared to replacement of the roof in addition to the numerous sustainable benefits of a white reflective coating.

Truline, an Aldo Approved Applicator, was awarded the project through the bid process. Truline first primed the entire roof with our ALDOPRIME 624 before they utilized ALDOSEAL 750 Acrylic Sealant with an ALDOFABRIC 272, a highly durable roofing fabric, to address penetration points as part of the thorough prep process. The contractor then applied a basecoat of ALDOCOAT 374 and a finish coat of ALDOCOAT 400 Premium Acrylic, a reflective coating that is Energy Star approved and listed by the CRRC (Cool Roof Rating Council).

The municipality realized immediate cost savings of more than 50% compared to the cost of roof replacement for this project that was completed within three weeks of commencement. Ongoing energy savings should also be realized from reduced energy use during peak cooling periods.

The entire roof restoration project was completed within three weeks from start to finish while the facility continued to operate – a great benefit not only to the municipality but also to the families the facility serves. The solution will extend the life of the roof for another 10 years with the possibility of a renewal application at that time.
